Attractions in Wayanad
Edakkal caves -: The two caves are located at a height of 1000 m on Ambukutty mala near Ambalavayal situated 12 km from sulthan bathery. The new Stone Age pictorial writings on the walls of these natural caves at Deakkal are evidence of the civilisation that existed in these regions in prehistoric times. The caves can be accessed only by a 1 km trekking trail from Edakkal.
Lakkidi
This is amongst the tallest point in the Wayanad region and has a height of 700 m above the sea level. The towering mountain peaks, the rushing stream, verdant vegetation and a deep valley attracts you in this beautiful place.
Pookot Lake
Pookot is a natural lake near Lakkidi is just a short distance off the National Highway 212.It offers some of recreational facilities like boating facilities, children’s park, and shop for souvenirs and spices, and a fresh water aquarium.
Wayanad wildlife sanctuary
Established in 1973, the Wayanad wildlife sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the northeast and Madumalai of Tamil Nadu on the southeast. Rich in bio-diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri biosphere reserve, which has been established with the specific objective of conserving the biological heritage of the region. The sanctuary is very rich in flora and fauna.
Mananthavady Kuruvadweep
This 950 acre, uninhabited island on the eastward bound kabani river is an ideal picnic spot. The wooded stretch of land is home to rare species of birds, orchids and herbs.
Suchipara Falls
The road leading to the Falls is coiled through tea gardens The motorable road ends before 1.5 km of the Falls, leaving rest for walk. The three-pronged equatorial forest-hidden Falls are breathtaking.
Heritage Museum
It is a tribal-life oriented museum located at Ambalavayal. The collections mainly are from Wayanad district. Potteries of Megalithic Age, musical instruments, bangles, ear ornaments and hunting traps are the major items on display.
Meenmutty Falls
A interesting 2 km jungle trek off the main Ooty Road, Meenmutty is the largest and most spectacular waterfall in Wayanad. A unique feature is that water drops about 300 metres over three stages.
Chembra Peak
The highest peak in Wayanad at 2100mts above sea level, this spot provides a breathtaking view of the entire valley and also has a path for trekking enthusiasts.
Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary
The main attraction is with no doubt the elephant rides through the jungle. This sanctuary allows you to have a peek into the natural lives of all the wild animals within the area.

Air: The nearest airport is Calicut. 109 km from Kalpetta, district headquarters.
Road: N H 212 (Kozhikode-Mysore) passes via Kalpetta and Sulthan Bathery.
